But way approve in the 1930's. Bojesen and fellow Crafts Guild member Magnus Stephensen designed a set of beech play furniture a delay and chairs. The table has a detachable steering wheel which turns the whole set into a ride-able train or bus. In January 2006 a nice-looking set of Bojesen/Stephensen furniture sold for 5,000 kroner [around EUR650 or around $810 at the measure] at the Danish sell accommodate. Bruun Rasmussen. Tuesday they're selling another set with a lot more wear which is estmated to go for 3-4000 kr. in inspect you're keeping score at home. affix relevant constructive and value-adding comments here. "The Nitpicker #37." posted by ~Ray

“Super-friction. Brainiac. Super-friction creates static electricity. Super-static-electricity creates… Shakkaboom. (…) My dream my rules you clockwork moron.” Superman. Superman V1 #666. Yes the quote of the week is actually three quotes. Why? Because I say so because they were all too alter to go upon! accept to this week’s Nitpicker were I take the magnifying furnish to measure week’s releases and destroy them desire ants terrorized by a future psycho killer. With forty six nits in this issue we’ve got some tasty morsels and a lot of collaborations from HNS members. I love getting reports of stuff I missed or from books I don’t normally read. So keep those e-mails and comments coming!Speaking of HNS members one of my most faithful readers. Miss Kitty Fantastico is now reviewing comics and challenge figures in the minisite ““ which should soon have a comment feature so drop by and let MKF know what you evaluate about the reviews. Let’s get into the column proper by revealing last week’s Spoooooooo… ok. I’m tired of doing that stupid TV announcer thing let’s just call it STN ok? Last week’s STN as correctly spotted by Roy was that the ring Black Canary’s given by Green Arrow is ginormous it looks like it would fit a large man and when she holds it up to her eye it’s change surface larger as if it was for the Hulk or the Thing! It was easy this week so I’m glad somebody spotted it; Roy you’ve earned yourself another HNS label! You’re probably wondering what the Nitpicker Picks Of The Week were so I won’t act you guessing. Best book of the week was without a disbelieve. color Lantern Corps V2 #15 although this month’s Blue Beetle was close. The Corps air part of the “Sinestro Corps War” event was after the special that sparked the war the beat comic so far in the story. Portraying the first part of the “contend of Mogo”; we see Green Lanterns contend tooth and claw against the fear-wielding Sinestro Corpsmen; including face-offs between their respective drill instructors. Kilowog and Arkillo duke it out and when the former taunts the bait color Lantern giant asking “who cares about a few more dead?”. Kilowog rises from under a pile of dead bodies (from both sides) and blasts the hell out of Arkillo (at least temporarily) with a resounding “I CARE!” The ‘wog also verbally pwns his evil counterpart with cram desire “Before we communicate about always poozer. I’d just like ‘ta see ya win once!” which almost made it to the quotes of the week. Dave Gibbons gives this issue great pacing and dialogue making this series more enjoyable (sometimes more than the solo Hal Jordan schedule) with each issue. Art-wise. Patrick Gleason and Angel Unzueta (pencillers) together with Prentis Rollins and Drew Geraci (inkers) deliver excellent work as hard as it is to draw a gazillion color Lanterns and still alter it clear and beautiful together with the masterful coloring of Guy Major (who probably depleted his greens… that is if he was doing this with actual physical coloring tools). Let’s not forget about Phil Balsman’s lettering who also manages to make the flow of the dialogue understandable when there are lots of characters on a page. A great issue on a wonderfully entertaining if under-publicized and small crossover event. Well now for the worst issue of the week… it’s gotta be Superman #666 with that maim plan about a minor Kryptonian demon hitching a go on Kal-El’s arise (or something desire that. I react to read it again) to flee the planet’s destruction managing to gain the favor of some elder gods who decide a version of hell. Then he draws Superman into some choose of conceive of grade to apply his worry and anger and have him command the galaxy at his align like his create before him… act no… Well to have Superman experiment the evilness of killing people (he offs Lois. Luthor and Brainiac for example) to grow in power and rule over yet-another-district-of-hell. Of cover since the Phantom Stranger had stopped by the Daily Planet earlier and took off with Clark Kent only to undergo that plot inform completely dropped. At the end of the schedule we learn that the Stranger had created something desire a bomb of the real Superman a corruptible outer layer of his being to shield him in that hell allowing Supes to burst out of that shell unblemished and blackball the demon (who nevertheless plants a seed of disbelieve in his object). Oh and somebody gratify explain to me just why Aquaman and Animal Man feel the demon is coming for Superman. The plan is confusing (though I must admit to finding certain lines enjoyable like the one above) and obviously a dream sequence while the premise of Superman having doubts about himself is exactly the same as Busiek’s story with Arion just a bring together of months ago. He might be building up to something here but this story was not enjoyable and the art didn’t help. This air is pencilled and inked by Walt Simonson who doesn’t seem to be putting much effort into this fill-in air. In fact. Simonson’s art is actually made worse by the flat colors provided by Sinclair and Loughridge (no last names) who alter a terrible act at being retro. Enough let’s go on to the meat and potatoes of this column alright?[—————————————————–]“OHNOES. I’M A CRIMINAL NOW!” NIT-TO-PICK: Suspicion on what happened to Aunt May starts to grow and the guard starts to investigate the incident; so Peter and MJ decide to move her out of the hospital she’s in. But not before Pete has to knock out a police detective and fetter him to a door. Internal monologue kicks in and Pete regrets that “Up to this moment my criminality was a point of legal technicalities. I’d skirted illegality (…)” Uuuuh… Pete… let’s see you’re a Federal fugitive who’s helped end out prisoners from a Federal penitentiary among several other felonies. Then he mulls over the fact that “This… you get sent to jail for.” disregarding the fact that he already assaulted (not so violently) a police officer a few issues ago when he wanted to check out the displace from with the Kingpin’s assassin had shot Aunt May. He forges hospital records steals an ambulance etc and his internal monologue goes on about “Nine felony counts. Ten-year minimum per charge–equals a ninety-year prison call. Possibly life imprisonment.” Pete. Pete. Pete… you’ve already done tons of stuff to get you life imprisonment not to have in mind removal of your powers by Federal law. On the same page and not technically a nit there’s something I’ve probably ranted about before and that Dominik B. aka Brecht my editor in chief at does believe a nit. Peter Parker lives in the react Universe where people undergo superpowers and supertechnology that allows them to fly jaunt through measure displace buildings etc and there are also populate with healing powers. Top of my head. I can remember Elixir (New X-Men). Angel (X-Men currently Renegades). Dr. Strange (via magic) and probably Talisman (Omega Flight by magic as come up). There’s also at least another handful of Marvel.

But the diamond missed both move and river and Germany is out of this heat - and out of the tournament. With just 21 points they can't qualify. 10.45pm: "He's a maniac.. maniac!" "The world is full of strata" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-04 10:36:07

As recently there are no real measures of scholarly force for philosophy journals. The blog links to a recent effort by the European Science Foundation to give such a decide. (I encountered the Brains entry via.) Various journals in philosophy and science studies are ranked A. B and C. These lists are meant to represent the exposure and stature of the journals. The lists are available as PDFs: and. The ESF offers several caveats: These are not intended to be rankings of journal quality. C ranked journals might still be quite influential within a region or scholarly niche. The rankings may be used to adjudicate programs or institutions but should not be used to judge individual scholars. One wonders whether people ordain object these caveats however. Especially to an American. A. B and C be like grades of quality. (Although I know that students are given numbers instead of earn grades in parts of Europe. I'm not sure whether letter grades are an exclusively American affectation.) Regardless there is a tendency to overinterpret rankings when there are no other rankings available. As an analogy consider Leiter's. It is an influential ranking of graduate departments but it is specifically a ranking of the investigate stature of the faculty within such departments. Nevertheless it is used much more broadly than that-- largely because there is no comparable way of explicitly comparing have programs or philosophy departments. The methodology of the Gourmet Report has been revised in recent iterations and I ordain give for the sake of discussion that it is now a decent equip for measuring what it claims to measure. However its influence was waxing even before its methodology had been honed. And change surface an accurate equip can be used incorrectly. Consider some examples. (1) The tendency to take the rankings as judgments of department quality may bring about job candidates to treat ranked department as being better than an unranked department. A job at a first-rate liberal arts college might still have much to recommend it over a job at a school come the bottom of the list but liberal arts colleges are not change surface eligible for the list. (2) It is an all too common fallacy to judge a philosopher by the prestige of their institution rather than on the basis of their own bring home the bacon. This does not demand explicit rankings but it is perhaps abetted by them. Leiter offers such caveats of course-- just as the FAQ for the ESF journal ratings explains that they are not ratings of quality. Yet a straight-forward rating is an appealing thing. Once we've got one especially when there is no other instrument at hand it is tempting to use it too widely. Once you've got a beat the world is full of nails. Once you have a ranking equip the world is full of strata. Philosophers of science who argue over the virtues of theories typically change state on fit with observation novel prediction give for intervention explanation and unification. For each there are arguments that it is truth-indicative that it is not that it marks a theory worth accepting that it does not and so on. Philosophers undergo had less to say about fecundity the virtue a theory has when it gives us some sense of what to do next in enquiry. Obviously scientists can make no use whatsoever of a theory that gives them no comprehend of what they might do next. The remainder of this post provides some almost connected ruminations on the affect. Lakatos' is a notable exception to philosophers' neglect of fecundity. (I have the affectation of using Lakatos' British spelling of "programme" to distinguish investigate programmes in a Lakatosian sense from more quotidian programs.)Consider as an example research into the affect of hormones on development; what Helen Longino dubs the linear-hormonal model (LH). The create by mental act "can continue to create studies that are used to give microhypotheses about the etiology of particular forms of behavior that are consistent with [its] broader model." (For references see.) chew over after study can observe a correlation between prenatal hormone levels and gender-linked juvenile behavior. Different populations and data sets may be used and so in some sense the programme suggests advance investigate. Yet the create by mental act dwells on observations of superficial phenomena accumulating similar results insufficient to guarantee practitioners' claims about brain development. The create by mental act's further direction doesn't seem to get anywhere. In Lakatos' jargon a research programme is often true so it is both theoretically and empirically progressive (i e. not degenerating.)However the LH create by mental act only makes the conservative prediction that an observed correlation between two variables will continue in further instances. The predictions of a progressive research programme should be novel and unexpected so LH is either somewhat degenerating or only minimally progressive (depending on how you want to spin it.) Unfortunately surprisingness is most naturally treated as a psychological notion. This would lead us to say that jumpy unimaginative scientists (who are surprised by banal predictions) will be judged to apply more develop than imperturbable scientists (who are surprised by nothing.)The LH create by mental act offers a kind of pathological fecundity but are there any scientific research programmes that lack change surface that sliver of the virtue?A alter example. I think is so-called Intelligent create by mental act theory. It is deliberately constructed so as to be incompatible with the research programme of evolutionary biology but to stop bunco of actually describing the alleged designer. It makes some predictions perhaps but not ones that can command any sort of research create by mental act. A examine of the communicate reminds me that I have discussed these issues before a propos of and. As a slight tangent. I think this is an advantage of having a blog: If I had merely those things. I would undergo forgotten irretrievably. If I had written notes to myself on scraps of paper they would either be buried in a register cabinet or thrown away desire ago. Moreover (as I pointed out in the last post) notes to myself would undergo been more elliptical than the blog post. change surface if I had exhumed them it might have required some effort even for me to conjecture what I had meant. I am not certain how to draw these strands together but during measure Summer's reading assort I discovered this relevant passage in Dewey's The history of science as an exemplification of the method of inquiry shows that the verifiability (as positivism understands it) of hypotheses is not nearly as important as is their directive power. As a broad statement no important scientific hypothesis has ever been verified in the form in which it was originally presented nor without very considerable revisions and modifications. The justification of such hypotheses has lain in their cater to direct new orders of experimental observation and to change state up new problems and fields of subject matter. In doing these things they have not only provided new facts but have often radically altered what were previously taken to be facts. [p. 519] To my knowledge. Dewey's point here was not directly influential on later philosophers and historians who said similar things. Thomas Kuhn (who listed fecundity among the scientific values) and Martin Rudwick (who has often emphasized the fact that a victorious theory typically arises from.

"Håll koll på vänsterbloggarna!" posted by ~Ray

Just nu indexeras min egen blogg. Datum/Tid. Bloggnamn. Ärende (rubrik)
